daisy_smallOne of the greatest resources we can offer you is the opportunity to meet with a Discipleship Coach. These are trained Grace Community members who can sit down and help you discern your “spiritual address” and what you might need next on your journey forward as a follower of Jesus Christ. Meeting with a Discipleship Coach is easy and hospitable.  Meetings are usually 30 minutes long and you can connect in person or on the phone. You can meet just once or for a season as you see fit and as you find it helpful. Your coach may direct you to one or more of the resources on this website. There is no cost to you for the coaching – it is part of what we feel is necessary to empower you to grow as a disciple.

If you are interested in connecting with a Discipleship Coach click here (link to themathtutor@att.net  ).

A life of opening to Jesus points us in the direction of spiritual practices that help us develop an awareness of the presense of Christ with a focus on engaging the scriptures and prayer. Maturity in this dimension of discipleship includes taking responsibility for our own spiritual growth.

Falling Upward

In Falling Upward, Fr. Richard Rohr seeks to help readers understand the tasks of the two halves of life and to show them that those who have fallen, failed, or "gone down" are the only ones who understand "up." Most of us tend to think of the second half of life as largely about getting old, dealing with health issues, and letting go of life, but the whole thesis of this book is exactly the opposite.

A New Kind of Christian

A New Kind of Christian's conversation between a pastor and his daughter's high school science teacher reveals that wisdom for life's most pressing spiritual questions can come from the most unlikely sources. This stirring fable captures a new spirit of Christianity--where personal, daily interaction with God is more important than institutional church structures, where faith is more about a way of life than a system of belief, where being authentically good is more important than being doctrinally "right," and where one's direction is more important than one's present location.

Who Is This Man?

Jesus is history's most familiar figure, yet he is the man no one knows. His impact on the world is immense and non-accidental. And yet . . .you can miss him in historical lists for many reasons, maybe the most obvious being the way he lived his life. He did not loudly and demonstrably defend his movement in the spirit of a rising political or military leader. He did not lay out a case that history would judge his brand of belief superior in all future books. His life and teaching simply drew people to follow him. He made history by starting in a humble place, in a spirit of love and acceptance, and allowing each person space to respond.

Faith Seeking Understanding

Faith Seeking Understanding is NOT an introduction, but rather a text used in seminaries and undergraduate religious studies programs to help student articulate their own “system” of “doing theology.”  Migliore helps the reader explore the authority of Scripture, the providence of God and the mystery of evil, humanity as creature, sinner, and new being in Christ, and Christian hope in light of religious pluralism.  Not for beginners, but for those growing and maturing in their faith, this is a must-have resource.

Attend a Short Term Bible Study or Group

One of the best ways to learn and practice hospitality is by intentionally becoming a part of a group for learning, fellowship and accountability. Listening to the stories of others, sharing your stories and being welcoming to folks who may be different from you is part of growing in hospitality.  A short term  group or class offers this in with “limited risk” as the group will only be meeting for a few weeks.  Grace offers opportunities for such groups several times a year.

Sleeping with Bread

This book is about asking ourselves two questions: For what am I most grateful? For what am I least grateful? These questions help us identify moments of consolation and desolation. We call this process the examen. For centuries, prayerful people have found direction for their days and for their lives by identifying these moments. Since even small children can do this, we have tried here to present the examen in a format that families, friends and communities can share and that will be easily accessible to anyone. We hope the examen will enrich your lives and your relationships as much as it has ours."

A New Kind of Christianity

In this much anticipated book, McLaren examines ten questions facing today's church—questions about how to articulate the faith itself, the nature of its authority, who God is, whether we have to understand Jesus through only an ancient Greco-Roman lens, what exactly the good news is that the gospel proclaims, how we understand the church and all its varieties, why we are so preoccupied with sex, how we should think of the future and people from other faiths, and the most intimidating question of all: what do we do next? Here you will find a provocative and enticing introduction to the Christian faith of tomorrow.

Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life

In Falling Upward, Fr. Richard Rohr seeks to help readers understand the tasks of the two halves of life and to show them that those who have fallen, failed, or "gone down" are the only ones who understand "up." Most of us tend to think of the second half of life as largely about getting old, dealing with health issues, and letting go of life, but the whole thesis of this book is exactly the opposite. What looks like falling down can largely be experienced as "falling upward." In fact, it is not a loss but somehow actually a gain, as we have all seen with elders who have come to their fullness.
